Lerryn is a magical place, peacefully nestling in a lovely tree lined river valley in one of the most beautiful and rural parts of Cornwall. A small friendly, picturesque riverside village, Lerryn is set in a conservation area within an area of outstanding natural beauty. It has magnetic appeal to artists; walkers; country lovers; boating enthusiasts and is much appreciated by residents and visitors alike.
The River Lerryn runs through the middle of the village and has glorious woodland walks on either side, some private woodland and some National Trust and Forestry Commission owned. Much in evidence on the river are numerous "wild" ducks (puddleducks), all obligingly tame when offered food and are quite a local attraction. Children enjoy the challenge of the stepping stones, crabbing on the quay and dabbling with their nets when the tide is out.
Lerryn events worth noting are the "Lerryn River Yacht Squadron" Summer Solstice Rally (June) and winter Seagull Race (December). These are both fun events held on the river, usually in fancy dress and attract participants from all over Cornwall and beyond. Other local events include the Boconnoc Spring Fair (April) the Fowey Festival of Words & Music (May) and the Royal Fowey Regatta (August).
Leisure interests are well catered for locally, with fishing, horseriding, sailing, golf and swimming all within a short drive. There are wonderful sandy bays and quiet coves nearby as well as popular areas such as Looe; Polperro; Fowey; Carlyon Bay and Mevagissey.
The Eden Project is approx 9 miles with the Lost Gardens of Heligan approximately 13 miles. Lanhydrock (the famous Cornish National Trust property) is only 5 miles away. Further away, on the North coast, but within easy reach, are Newquay, Padstow and Tintagel.
Lerryn has a well stocked village shop/post office called Lerryn River Stores. The shop provides food from the hatch which can be enjoyed on the picnic table on the village green. The shop will take orders in advance so that they are awaiting you on arrival.
The Ship Inn is just a couple of doors down from Puddleduck Cottage and hosts annual events such as regular quiz nights.
There is a village green next to the river where picnics can be enjoyed. Regular events take place in the Memorial Hall and the Red Store and are advertised on local noticeboards. Visitors are welcome to attend any of these events.
